Module 2
Module 2: Who Can Apply for Section 8?

To apply for Section 8, you must meet certain requirements. These are based on:
- Income: Your total family income must be below a specific limit based on your area. The income limits are set by HUD and families earning less than 30% of the average income in their city get priority.
- Family Size: Bigger families have higher income limits than smaller ones.
- Citizenship: At least one person in your household must be a U.S. citizen or have eligible immigration status.
- Other Considerations: Special programs exist for seniors and people with disabilities.
Example: If you are a single parent with two kids and your family income is $25,000 a year, you may qualify if that is below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) where you live.
